Tyson Fury has teased another tune-up tilt as he tries to reel in the big tuna that is Anthony Joshua.
“I’m set to fight Anthony Joshua [in the fourth quarter of this year] and another fight in August,” Fury said on his YouTube channel, FurociTV. “We haven’t got an opponent yet. Whoever the opponent is, it’s just to get sharper for the big one. It’s never about the opponent. It’s just about me versus me, always.”
Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs), The Ring’s No. 3 heavyweight contender, returned from yet another retirement April 11 and scored a unanimous-decision win against Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The win ended a two-fight losing streak for the former two-time heavyweight champion, who lost to Ring/IBF/WBA/WBC champ Oleksandr Usyk on both occasions in 2024.
“It’s an unbelievable, shall I say, successful comeback story, for the sixth time,” Fury said. “Obviously, there’s a lot of ring rust after 16 months out at 37 years old, but I shook it off quite quickly. It’s just a natural gift, really, and it’s sharpened me right up for the next fight now in August.”
As events in iconic locations like Times Square in New York and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt increasingly gain traction, Fury declared his dream destination to duke it out for a fight before he officially retires and never laces the gloves again.
“I want to fight at base camp at Mount Everest,” Fury said. “I don't really have any more big-time plans. That’s about it, really.”
Standing at over 29,000 feet on the China-Nepal border, Mount Everest is the highest mountain on Earth above sea level.
While marinating a matchup at Mount Everest may be a pipedream, training in Asia is not for Fury, who held camp in Thailand to prepare for Makhmudov.
“For whatever I’ve got left, three, four fights left, then I’ll be in Thailand for all of those training camps,” Fury said.
