The WBO announced Tuesday night on social media that it has scheduled a purse bid to secure the right to promote their 12-round, 160-pound championship match for September 29. The minimum bid is $200,000.

This purse bid was scheduled because representatives for England’s Bentley and the Cuban-born, United States-based Hernandez were unable to reach an agreement during their voluntary negotiating period.

Hernandez (11-0, 9 KOs), ranked No. 1 among the WBO’s middleweight contenders, was named Bentley’s mandatory challenger early in September. Bentley (22-3-1, 18 KOs) vehemently disagreed with the WBO’s order in part due to Hernandez’s inexperience and that the hard-hitting contender has yet to be scheduled in a 12-round fight, let alone won a WBO elimination match.

The heavily hyped Hernandez repeatedly told The Ring that becoming a mandatory challenger would be his only path to a title shot because he doesn’t think middleweight title-holders would willingly fight him.

Hernandez, 29, is ranked No. 2 among The Ring’s contenders for a vacant championship.

Only WBC champ Carlos Adames (25-1-1, 18 KOs) is ranked ahead of him. Bentley is not rated in The Ring’s top 10 in the 160-pound division.

Bentley, 31, won the then-unclaimed WBO interim title when he stopped Venezuela’s Endry Saavedra (17-2-1, 14 KOs) in the seventh round of their April 4 fight at O2 Arena in London. The WBO elevated Bentley to the status of full champion in July, when former IBF/WBO middleweight champ Janibek Alimkhanuly informed the Puerto Rico-based sanctioning organization that he would move up to the super middleweight division for his next fight.
