Joshua welcomes trilogy with training partner Usyk

Anthony Joshua has opened the door to an “amazing” third fight with Oleksandr Usyk just months after deciding to link up with the Ukrainian’s training team.
Following his decision to split from Ben Davison in 2025, Joshua, 36, made the surprising move to Spain to join Team Usyk.
The pair have become very close ever since and Usyk recently told The Ring that even his own sons have grown fond of having the Englishman around in camp.
It was not always so friendly however, as Usyk secured back-to-back victories over "AJ" in 2021 and 2022, the first of which relieved him of his world heavyweight titles.
But Joshua, who is set to face Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on July 25, refused to rule out a third encounter with his new mate.
“Usyk? It’s up to him,” Joshua said when asked if they would ever fight again.
“But I  think it would be amazing, respectfully. It’s just friendly competition. Before it was different, there was real animosity but now it’s just friendly competition.”
Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) left Davison in the wake of his devastating knockout defeat at the hands of Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024.
His first fight as part of team Usyk came against former YouTuber Jake Paul in December, which he won via sixth-round knockout but was clearly not at his best.
But Joshua and Usyk have spent much of the last two months together as The Ring heavyweight champion prepared to face Rico Verhoeven in Egypt while Joshua kicked off his camp ahead of the Prenga clash.
And, having watched Joshua up close in training camp, Usyk has predicted that the Londoner will become undisputed heavyweight champion during 2027 — and even wrote it on the gym wall in camp.
When asked what he has learned from working up close with Usyk so far, Joshua said: “The importance of prayer.
“But in terms of boxing IQ, when you look at him him and his team, it’s like an Olympic team that has transitioned from the amateurs to the professionals. So what I’ve learned from him is to surround yourself with people who are experienced.
“Some of us train with our mate down the local gym, paying £20 a month, that’s our S&C coach. Then once you’re done with him, he has no communication with your boxing coach. Then your boxing coach doesn’t understand the masseuse.
“Usyk has set his soldiers around him that understand the duty of going out to conquer the world. There’s not one person thinking that they are happy where they’re living. This person wants to conquer.
"They are all on the same page and he has structured that. That’s what I see as a recipe for success. Everyone is on the same page and knows what direction they’re going, nobody is pulling a different want. It’s about collective strength and you see that through him. When he fights, he’s fighting with his team.”
