Benn will have to make the welterweight limit for the first time in nearly four years when he faces Garcia for his WBC welterweight title. The Englishman said the process of making 147 pounds has taken a piece of him ahead of his 12-round bout against Garcia at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Their bout will stream on Paramount+ in the United States and on DAZN across the UK and Ireland.

“It's hard,” Benn said in a one-on-one interview with The Ring’s Mike Coppinger. “It's brutal, but we're getting it done. I ain't gonna be complaining and moaning. I know what I signed up for. You're not gonna see me posting no posts for sympathy in sweatsuits or crying. I'm getting paid handsomely. I'm fighting for the world title and headlining in a mega-fight in Las Vega s…Yes, the weight's going to be hard. Yes, it's taking a piece out of my spirit and my soul to get down in weight. Yes, it's excruciating, but it's part of the job.”

Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) said this fight will be his last at welterweight, and he plans to move up to 168 pounds afterwards.

He last weighed 147 pounds in April 2022 when he scored a second-round stoppage of Chris Van Heerden. Benn, 29, weighed 149.6 pounds for his last fight, a unanimous decision over two-time 140-pound titleholder Regis Prograis in a 10-round, 150-pound catch-weight bout on April 11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

While getting down to the lightest he had been in almost four years to face Prograis wasn’t easy, Benn said this weight cut has been far more difficult.

“I feel like I went down to hell, said hello to Satan, and came back up to the Holy Land,” Benn said. “It's been hard. It's been really challenging, but I think in life, nothing worth having comes easy, right? We always knew it was going to be hard to get back down to 147, but it’s what I want to do."

Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs, 1 NC) will make the first defense of his WBC welterweight title against Benn. The Victorville, California, native won the belt in a dominant unanimous decision against Mario Barrios on February 21 at T-Mobile Arena.

Garcia, 28, dropped Barrios (29-3-2, 18 KOs) inside the first 30 seconds of the first round before coasting to a one-sided victory.

"He's a good fighter,” Benn said. “He's a champion, so I'm not going to sit here and discredit him, but I'm ready for a fight. That's what I prepared for, and I know everyone's talking about the weight and talking about this and talking about that. If there's anything over 10 years in my career [that] I've shown, it's insane discipline [and] insane work ethic.

“It's unmatched. It's unrivaled. You can't question my ambition. It's priceless. For me to be sitting where I am now and having gone through everything I've gone through, it's just a testament to my resilience and my discipline and dedication.”
