Jaron Ennis picked up the WBA and WBO 154-pound titles in his last fight by stopping Xander Zayas to became a two-division unified titleholder.
Now, he's calling dibs on a much different, unofficial title among the sport’s elite.
"I'm the face of boxing, and they will see," Ennis said on Monday's episode of "Inside The Ring."
"Every fight, I am going to give you something different. These guys can't do what I do. I do it all. You don't ever see a boring Boots fight … My style is a boxer-puncher, but I can do whatever I want in the ring with these guys. I try to give something different. I'm like a variety bag of chips whatever you want, you have."
Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs), a 29-year-old Philadelphia native, is certainly equipped for the role and building name recognition each time out, but there is still plenty of work to be done with the old guard in Canelo Alvarez, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua still in the mix as well as established entities Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, David Benavidez and Shakur Stevenson.
Ennis is ranked No. 9 on The Ring's pound-for-pound list and No. 1 at 154 pounds after zipping through Zayas with a seventh-round stoppage win last month.
Ennis dropped Zayas in Rounds 1, 5 and 7 and was in control, outside of a highly uncomfortable third round in which he was roughed up more than he'd ever experienced before.
"I watched the fight like five times. I still gave myself a C, or a C-plus," Ennis said. "I got touched. But everybody thought I was hurt. I wasn't hurt, even though it looked crazy. I was cool.
"I feel great about [the third round]. Everything happens for a reason. In the moments fighting that fight, and watching that fight, I got lazy. You can't get lazy in those types of high-level fights. That's what I took from that … What I mean by that I got lazy is that it got too easy. When things get too easy, get them out of there, or else you'll get caught.
"I just know me. I am way better than that. I'm seeing everyone hype over this performance, and I'm like, 'y'all ain't seen nothing yet.'"
Inside The Ring airs live every Monday on DAZN (2 p.m. ET/7 p.m. BST), providing interviews, analysis and breaking news with the sport's most captivating names.
