Few fighters, if any, have meant more to Puerto Rico than Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto.
For much of their respective careers, some of the biggest fights took place in New York. With the Puerto Rican Day Parade taking place on Sunday, we assess how a potential Trinidad-Cotto fight could have played out.
Trinidad (42-3, 35 KOs) was a three-division champion having won world titles at welterweight, junior middleweight and middleweight. The Cupey Alto native defended his title 15 times in the 147-pound division, with 12 of those coming by knockout.
His extensive resume included victories over Luis Ramon Campas, Pernell Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas before being inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.
Cotto (41-6, 33 KOs) was the country's first four-division champion having won titles at junior welterweight, welterweight, junior middleweight and middleweight. His accolades included victories over Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito and Sergio Martinez before being inducted into the IBHOF in 2022.
