Top Rank bid $8.55 million, beating out Teofimo Lopez’s Takeover Promotions, which bid $2.35 million. The purse bid took place on Thursday at WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Haney will receive 75 percent of the winning bid, and Davis will receive 25 percent, in accordance with WBO rules for mandated matches. Their purse bid was originally scheduled for Monday, but it was pushed back at the request of both teams as they worked to reach a deal that never materialized.

Haney will make his first defense of the WBO welterweight title, while Davis will make his debut at the division limit of 147 pounds. Top Rank proposed the fight take place on Oct. 3 with the potential sites being Barclays Center in New York, State Farm Arena in Atlanta and Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

Haney (33-0, 15 KOs), The Ring’s No. 1 welterweight, became a three-division champion thanks to a one-sided unanimous decision over Brian Norman on November 22 in Saudi Arabia. The 27-year-old Oakland native is ranked No. 8 on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list.

The former undisputed lightweight champ reportedly agreed to a multi-fight agreement recently with DAZN, which is expected to stream Haney versus Davis to subscribers of its monthly Ultimate plan and via pay-per-view.

Davis (15-0, 10 KOs) won the WBO lightweight title with a fourth-round stoppage of then-titleholder Denys Berinchyk in February 2025.

The Norfolk, Virginia, native lost his title on the scales after missing weight by over four pounds for his fight against Edwin De Los Santos in June 2025. That bout was canceled because Davis missed weight.

Davis, 27, moved up to 140 pounds for his next fight and notched a 12th-round stoppage of Jamaine Ortiz on January 31 in New York. He most recently recorded a 12-round, unanimous-decision victory over Nahir Albright in their rematch May 16 at Scope Arena in Norfolk.

The 2021 Olympic silver medalist decided to move up to welterweight soon after he beat Albright. Davis was installed as the mandatory challenger for Haney’s title June 30.
