Featherweight contender Albert "Chop" Gonzalez submitted another statement Saturday by crushing a second former title challenger inside of two rounds.
Gonzalez (19-0, 12 KOs) made easy work of Eduard Vazquez at Frost Bank Arena in San Antonio due to a dedicated attack to the body. Gonzalez needed to connect with just 31 punches to pulverize a fighter who went the distance with Raymond Ford and Joe Cordina in highly competitive decision losses, and seven rounds with WBO 126-pound champion Rafael Espinoza in May 2025.
"We expected a much tougher fight and a much longer night," Gonzalez told reporters. "I was able to touch the body a little early and get the job done earlier than expected. I showed the fight fans and the boxing world that not only am I just talking, but the performances are speaking for themselves."
Gonzalez is trained and managed by Robert Garcia and has declared that he's title-ready. He's ranked No. 6 by The Ring at 126 pounds as well as No. 8 (IBF), 10th (WBO) and 11th (WBC).
"I'm looking for the world champions," Gonzalez said. "That's my dream: to be a world champion, unify titles and become undisputed. There is no limit to what I can do."
The 24-year-old Southern California native is also enjoying a breakout 2026 by knocking out each of his four opponents. Gonzalez's last three fights have also lasted a total of five rounds, including a second-round stoppage against former title challenger Aaron Alameda in July.
"I feel like I can adapt to everything," he said. "If I have to be physical and rough, I can do that. If I have to box, I can do that. I think that's a problem presented to everybody. I can be whatever I need to be to get the job done. I could stay at 126 for a while. I feel comfortable at this weight. I feel great, and I feel strong."
With no plans to leave the division anytime soon, Gonzalez should be in position to be pitted against champions Angelo Leo (IBF), Bruce Carrington (WBC) and Rafael Espinoza (WBO) in 2027, especially since they all have ties to his promoter, Top Rank.
"He's ready to fight 12 rounds without any problems," Garcia said. "If we were to get the call, I'll take any of the three champions. They are all talented, and I don't mind anyone. It doesn't matter who we fight.
"I see Chop being at least a three-division champion. He's got the skills, power, and he's disciplined."
