For the last few weeks, father and son have loudly campaigned for a fight against Stevenson.

The biggest issue, however, is reaching an agreement on the weight. Stevenson currently holds The Ring and WBO 140-pound titles, while Haney has the WBO 147-pound strap.

Considering the one-division weight disparity, Stevenson finds it interesting that the Haneys have been pushing for the fight more than ever before. The way he sees it, Team Haney is obviously trying to use the size difference to their advantage, which is why the Newark native has continually told them that they need to find a middle ground.

“You’re begging to fight someone that’s way smaller than you, just like they did for [Gervonta Davis] Tank for years,” Stevenson told The Daily Mail. “You ain’t eager to jump up and fight [Jaron Ennis] at 154, that ain’t what you’re thinking about. You want an advantage over somebody.

“When me and Devin fight, Devin is going to be 20 pounds bigger. Which is why he’s so eager to jump in the ring with me. For me, I’m with the fight but that’s why I said the 144 pounds. You come down in weight and we meet in the middle.”

For now, the ball is seemingly in Haney's hands. The former undisputed lightweight champion, who began his third title reign late last year with a win over Brian Norman, hasn’t fought in the same weight class as Stevenson since 2023.

If four-division champion Stevenson does get Devin to come down in weight, he knows that size will still be an issue. However, having seen some of the best fighters in history pull off wins against bigger opposition, he's confident he can join an elite list.

“I've seen the greats do it,” Stevenson said. “I’m willing to challenge myself. Floyd beat a big Canelo, Usyk beat a big Tyson Fury, and there’s other stories in the sport of boxing where the smaller guy beats the bigger guy. I’m all for it. I think that’s gonna show why I’m truly pound-for-pound the No. 1 fighter in the sport of boxing. I’m willing to make the fight happen.”
