CSI Sports Events, the company that Floyd Mayweather contracted with for bouts with Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao, filed a lawsuit Thursday in New York against him alleging breach of contract, according to a complaint obtained by The Ring.
CSI claims that it paid the legendary boxer a $4.5 million advance last year in exchange for the exclusive rights to promote his boxing events. That included what amounts to a two-fight deal for an exhibition with Tyson and a professional boxing rematch with Pacquiao, whom Mayweather defeated in 2015 in a fight that shattered revenue records.
The suit states that one day after it paid Mayweather a second advance worth $150,000, he announced an exhibition with Greek kickboxer Michael Zambidis. CSI is not involved with that June 27 event in Athens, which it claims is a breach of its contract with Mayweather.
Further, CSI claims that its contract stipulates Mayweather cannot participate in another event before the Tyson exhibition.
CSI is seeking an injunction to stop Mayweather’s exhibition in Greece and to be repaid $4,650,000 in advances.
Mayweather is set to earn $14 million for the Tyson event, per the contract, with $2 million already paid up front.
No date or location was ever announced for that exhibition. When it was announced in September, Spring 2026 was mentioned. It was being planned for April in the Democratic Republic of Congo, The Ring reported earlier this year.
The Pacquiao fight presents more issues, per the complaint. Mayweather was contractually set to earn $35 million with 20% upside of PPV revenue. If the event didn’t take place on PPV, CSI would pay Mayweather $50 million.
Mayweather was paid a $2.5 million advance for the Pacquiao event.
The suit claims Mayweather then entered agreement with a different party, the production company Everwonder, for a Pacquiao fight on Netflix. This deal promised to pay Mayweather $24,750,000 with a potential $3,750,000 bonus and a $2,750,000 advance, which he was paid.
In February, Netflix announced that Mayweather would meet Pacquiao in a Sept. 19 rematch at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Everwonder eventually agreed to a $5 million cash settlement, per the suit, with that money set to be paid to Mayweather by CSI for exclusive rights to his first fight following the Pacquiao event.
Part of the amended deal for Mayweather to meet Tyson in an exhibition included $150,000 to complete pre-fight medicals, which he did in February.
After Mayweather received the funds in cash, CSI claims he then breached the agreements by announcing the exhibition in Greece. CSI was OK with Mayweather holding the event after the Tyson obligation was met.
Tyson injured his hand and was unable to compete by the deadline of May 30, but was available to reschedule in the next six months. The suit claims Mayweather was only allowed to take an interim fight, such as the Greece exhibition, if Tyson couldn’t compete by Nov. 30.
While CSI was in settlement talks with Mayweather, it received notice it was terminated as his promoter, by the suit.
This is just the latest legal trouble for Mayweather. Last month, The Ring reported that Mayweather was in jeopardy of his passport being revoked due to upward of $7.25 million in unpaid taxes.
Mayweather’s rematch with Pacquiao remains in limbo after he stated that he didn’t agree to fight him in an official professional bout despite signed contracts to the contrary.
Mayweather and Pacquiao have been involved in negotiations for months to settle the dispute and stage the fight.
And on Tuesday, it was reported that Mayweather is facing felony charges for allegedly passing a bad check to buy a $200,000 watch in Las Vegas.
