ORLANDO — Austin “Ammo” Williams was the lone fighter to weigh-in the last time he was scheduled to fight WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames.
Adames was forced to withdraw from their Jan. 31 bout after he was hospitalized due to complications during his weight cut.
There were no such dramatics this time, as both fighters made weight for their middleweight title bout on Saturday at Caribe Royale on DAZN (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT). Adames was under the 160-pound limit at 158.6, while Williams weighed 159.6. The fighters had to be kept apart during their intense final staredown.
Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs) will be fighting for the first time since his controversial split draw against Hamzah Sheeraz in February 2025. The 31-year-old from Elias Pina, Dominican Republic, will be making his third title defense.
For Williams, it’ll be his first shot at a world title. The 29-year-old southpaw from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has won four straight fights since his lone defeat, an 11th-round stoppage against Sheeraz in June 2024.
