Unbeaten junior welterweight contender Arthur Biyarslanov knew he would be fighting on June 5. He just didn't know for a while who it would be against.
His promoter, Eye of The Tiger, ran into some issues securing an opponent for him.
When the experienced Xolisani Ndongeni was unable to secure a visa to fight, other options were assessed before Antonio Collado accepted the assignment and will be in the opposite corner on Thursday at the Montreal Casino, Montreal.
"Of course, it's really frustrating when your opponents keep changing," Biyarslanov (18-0, 15 KOs) told The Ring. "I just concentrate on myself and keep doing what I do in training to perform at my best with whoever it will be."
Biyarslanov doesn't overthink the process and is zeroed in on what his end target is.
"I have had this happen to me many times, so I know how to deal with it with no problem," he said calmly.
"Like any other opponent that's standing in my way of my ultimate goal of becoming a world champion."
This fight will be the 30-year-old's fifth fight in twelve months and that activity has clearly benefited Canada's 2016 Olympian.
"It feels great to stay busy," he acknowledged. "It helps me to get to where I want to get quicker. I want to become a world champion then unify."
And with the talent on show at 140-pounds, that opportunity shouldn't be far away. His promoter Camille Estephan is optimistic a world title shot will not be out of reach for long.
"We feel that Biyarslanov is another Artur Beterbiev, so all the big names are welcome," stated Estephan.
"In the immediate future [our target is WBC champion Alberto] Puello."
Collado (19-1, 3 KOs) turned professional in his native Spain in the fall of 2021. He claimed the national lightweight title in his 11th bout before losing it via a 10-round unanimous decision in his first defence by Rafael Acosta.
The 25-year-old has rebounded with seven victories since, most notably besting Venezuelan veteran Otto Gamez over eight rounds. Albert Ramirez vs. Michael Alan Flannery, plus undercard bouts, will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 7:00 p.m. ET/ 4:00 p.m. PT.
