“It’s him that should want it with me,“ Adames said during his post-fight media scrum. “I was the one who beat him. If he wants vengeance, then he should send me the offer.”

Adames’ win over Williams marked the third defense of his belt. He's The Ring’s No. 1 middleweight. Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) has only fought once since facing Adames, moving up to super middleweight and dropping Edgar Berlanga three times in a fifth-round stoppage victory in July.

Adames, 31, got off to a fast start against Williams, 29, dropping him with a straight right hand early in the second round. The right hand was a pivotal weapon for Adames as he continued to potshot and counter the southpaw with it.

Williams (20-2, 13 KOs) turned in a spirited effort and had his moments early. Adames’ skill, experience and endurance helped him seize control from the fifth round on. The Elias Pina, Dominican Republic, native was the aggressor and landed the more significant shots, while Williams fought in spurts and had his back to the ropes.

Adames doubled Williams in total punches landed, scoring 98 more power shots, per CompuBox. He won 118-108 and 117-109 twice across the judges’ scorecards.

Adames is boxing’s lone world champion from the Dominican Republic.

“I love my country,“ he said. “Carrying the weight of it is very important. I like it. In the World Baseball Classic, they robbed us. I feel like this is a way of getting vengeance and showing that with punches, they can’t rob us.”
