Allen and Carty faced each other at Croke Park, Dublin in the chief support of the event headlined by Katie Taylor’s farewell victory over Flora Pili on Saturday.

But what was a dream opportunity for Dubliner Carty, who grew up a short walk away from the stadium, turned into a nightmare less than 90 seconds into the fight.

The 30-year-old appeared to be struck on the back of the head by Allen during a clinch and the impact sent Carty tumbling through the ropes and onto the floor at ringside. There were worrying scenes as Carty received oxygen from medics but he was eventually able to walk back to the dressing room with the fight declared a no contest.

Now Carty is pressing hard for a second crack at Allen following such an anti-climax in Ireland but Allen is not interested.

“I want Trish Stratus from the year 2000 to come and knock on my door and tell me she loves me,” Allen said on Instagram. “But there’s about the same chance of that happening as the rematch.”

Allen’s nose has been put out of joint by Carty’s assertion that he was struck by two illegal rabbit punches within the fight’s opening 90 seconds.

“If someone wants to talk negatively about me I won’t box them,” Allen added. “Why would I want to box them?

“Why would I want to help a guy make money who is talking s--- about me on the internet? That doesn’t make sense to me. People ask don’t I want to beat him up? Not really. I don’t really want to beat anybody up, it’s just my job, I’m a boxer.”

Allen (27-9-2, 20 KOs, 1 NC) said during fight week that he was hoping to beat Carty and then box just once more before retiring. That would have taken the 34-year-old up to 40 fights.

However, with his clash against Carty going down as a no contest, he is still stuck on 38. Regardless of whether he plans one or two more fights, Allen has earmarked Ruiz as the man he wants to lure into a UK showdown in 2027.

He said: “I’m enquiring about me and Andy Ruiz in Sheffield Arena early next year.”

The day before Allen’s fight with Carty, 37-year-old Ruiz (35-3-1, 22 KOs) returned to the ring after more than two years out but dropped a unanimous decision to Damian Knyba.

It is unclear what route he will look to take now but a fight with Allen, himself a Matchroom fighter, would be an easy one to make if he is open to a UK debut.
