Cruiserweight contender Aloys Junior has revealed that talks regarding a British title showdown with ‘overhyped’ Viddal Riley are already underway.
Cruiserweight contender Aloys Junior has revealed that talks regarding a British title showdown with "overhyped" Viddal Riley are already underway.
The 22-year-old is Commonwealth champion and mandatory challenger for the British title that Riley (13-0, 7 KOs) won via unanimous decision victory over Chev Clarke on April 26.
Riley has welcomed the fight with Junior (10-1, 9 KOs) and suggested that it would be "perfect" for a Riyadh Season show — or could land nicely on the undercard for the mooted rematch between Christ Eubank Jr and Conor Benn later this year.
Now Junior, full name Aloys Youmbi, has responded to Riley’s claim and warned him that his slick boxing style will not work against him should they meet.
He told Box Nation: “There have absolutely been talks and I will stop him, without a doubt.
“I’m trying to break a rib, trying to break a jaw. Mikael Lawal broke his jaw and Mikael Lawal is nothing compared to me. If I crack him with a shot, Jesus Christ, he is finished.
“I know on fight night he’s going to be running like a marathon runner. He’s looking to make chess moves but ... I’m playing chess with a hammer and when I slam this hammer down it’s finished.”
When asked for his opinion on Riley’s victory over Clarke at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Junior said: “It was mediocre. I think Viddal Riley is overhyped. I think he just jitters in the ring to try and showcase his little movements to make people think he’s better than he is.
“I can’t wait to fight him, I hope he signs the contract and I hope he doesn’t pull out or have a crazy injury and I hope he doesn’t vacate the belt.”
