The stage is set for Dominguez, who’s on a two-fight win streak since losing to Yankiel Rivera via wide unanimous decision on Feb. 24.
Andy Dominguez wants to find a promotional home.
Boxing is hard enough as it is, but without the right team and muscle, certain fighters can get lost.
Dominguez (12-1, 6 KOs) doesn’t want that to happen to him.
The 27-year-old flyweight and Byron Rojas will get it on in the main event slot in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Friday night in just his second 10-rounder, as Boxing Insider Promotions hosts their fourth event of the year.
Winning is always the first objective for Dominguez. But in terms of recognition, that hasn’t gotten him anywhere. His goals clear, and he doesn’t plan on holding back.
“I really want a promoter,” Dominguez told The Ring. “I know that’s what I need, just someone to push me and get my name out there more. That way I can get more opportunities and show who I am. My first step is to beat this guy and look good doing it.”
When Dominguez initially turned pro in 2020, he did so without the help of a promoter. He used various social media outlets such as Instagram to promote himself and hoped that he could create enough buzz to grab someone’s attention.
The stage is set for Dominguez, who’s on a two-fight win streak since losing to Yankiel Rivera via wide unanimous decision on Feb. 24. The problem he faces, however, is that Rojas is on a roll as well. The 35-year-old has grabbed four wins in his last five with a no-contest.
Still, Dominguez knows fights like these are designed for him to either sink or swim. If he isn’t good enough, he’ll fall into obscurity. If he proves he’s a level above, he’ll move closer to where he wants to be.
A title shot, or fighting someone firmly cemented in the flyweight division’s top 10, isn’t an immediate objective, but finding a consistent home and figuring who believes in his talent ultimately is.
Regardless of the result, Dominguez is just grateful to be in the position he’s in today.
“I know I have the talent,” he said. “I just need a promoter to notice me."
