LAS VEGAS — WBO flyweight champion Anthony Olascuaga scored the statement win he was seeking in vicious fashion by stopping Juan Carlos Camacho in just two rounds on Thursday.
Olascuaga (10-1, 7 KOs) bulldozed through Camacho (19-2, 8 KOs) with a one-sided onslaught in the second round, beating the challenger around the ring with power punches.
The aggressive attack forced referee Harvey Dock to step in and stop the action at the 2:36 mark as a defenseless Camacho sat on the ropes, absorbing heavy leather.
The fight served as the main event for the debut of The Ring’s “Underdog” series at the Fontainebleau's BleauLive Theater.
“I’m glad I got the call, I was ready,” said Olascuaga, a 26-year-old from Los Angeles. “I connected with the right hand and saw that I hurt him. I followed with an uppercut, and a flurry, and he was hurt.”
The win marked the third defense of the title “La Princesa” Olascuaga won last year in Japan, and just the fifth fight of his career in the United States.
“I want to unify. I’m hungry,” said Olascuaga. “People say ‘belts don’t matter,’ but belts matter, and I showed it tonight.”
