LAS VEGAS – Top Rank boss Bob Arum didn’t mince any words describing Devin Haney’s recent performance against Jose Ramirez, a lackluster unanimous decision win that didn’t feature either fighter land double-digit punches in any round.

Haney connected with 70 shots while the former unified junior welterweight champion Ramirez landed 40 punches in a 12-round fight that featured extended periods of inactivity.

The Ring was at Top Rank’s headquarters watching the fight alongside the 93-year-old Hall of Fame promoter, and after the event concluded, Arum was blunt in assessing Haney’s efforts.

“Look at Haney. He looked terrible with Ramirez,” said Arum. “Absolutely [he looked gun-shy and afraid to take another big shot]. You see that? Who's going to want to see Haney fight if he fights that way?

“I don't know where he goes from here. Fighting the way he did, boxing fans take anything, but who the hell wants to see him fight? That was really a terrible performance.”

Haney was fighting for the first time since he was dropped three times by Ryan Garcia in a majority decision loss last year, a controversial clash that was later ruled a No Contest after it was revealed that Garcia tested positive for the PED Ostarine.

Garcia and Haney were supposed to meet in an October rematch, but those plans are now up in the air after Garcia got dropped and suffered a unanimous decision loss to Rolando Romero in an equally puzzling performance.

Arum, who’s promoted several of Haney’s fights throughout the years, didn’t give the overly cautious former two-division champion much of a chance to beat Romero if they ever fought.

“If Haney fights Rolly the way he did Ramirez, he doesn't win,” said Arum. “I've seen Haney in a lot of fights and I have never seen him fight this way. Based on fighting the way he did versus Ramirez, and what Rolly showed fighting against Garcia, I would pick Rolly. But I don't think you're going to see Haney as bad as he looked. When he looks at the tape, he'll realize that he has to change his style. I don't know what the hell he was running for 12 rounds. He wasn't in with King Kong against Jose Ramirez, who's at the end of his career and more a businessman than a fighter.”

When the displeased Arum was asked if he wanted to see a rematch between Haney and Garcia, he simply shook his head to say no.
