Seven months after an emphatic knockout victory, WBA's No. 1-rated welterweight contender Shakhram Giyasov will stay busy in his home country as he bides time waiting for clarity surrounding newly-minted full world champion Rolando Romero's next move.
Shakhram Giyasov is set to return on November 14 at the Humo Arena in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Lift Promotions has announced.
Giyasov (17-0, 10 KOs), ranked No. 5 by The Ring at 147 pounds, is taking the stay-busy, homecoming fight against a yet-to-be-announced opponent.
At the same time, he waits for his mandatory title shot against WBA welterweight champion Rolando Romero. Giyasov is ranked No. 1 by the WBA in the division.
"Wonder Boy" Giyasov, a 32-year-old born in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, and a 2016 Olympics silver medalist, last fought in April and scored a fourth-round knockout win against Franco Maximiliano Ocampo. The encounter was an emotional one for Giyasov, whose two-year-old daughter died a month before the bout from a rare brain condition.
Also set to appear on the card is heavyweight Lazizbek Mullojonov (6-0, 6 KOs, 1 NC), a 2024 Olympics gold medalist from Uzbekistan.
Mullojonov had been competing in the WBC Grand Prix tournament, but his unanimous decision win against Youness Baalla in their June 21 quarter-final was later changed to a No Contest once it was revealed the 26-year-old southpaw tested positive for a banned substance.
