The Ring has learned that discussions are underway regarding a super featherweight fight between Zelfa Barrett (31-2, 17 KOs) and James 'Jazza' Dickens (34-5, 14 KOs).

If terms are agreed, the fight would be added to the undercard of the WBO super lightweight final eliminator between Jack Catterall and Arnold Barboza Jnr which takes place in Manchester on February 15th.

Former European champion, Barrett, endured a frustrating 2024. After stopping Jordan Gill in the tenth round of a world title eliminator in April, the 31-year-old found it impossible to nail down a big fight.

Despite being linked to several names including WBC lightweight titleholder Shakur Stevenson, IBF champion Anthony Cacace and former WBA featherweight king Leigh Wood, the Mancunian was forced onto the sidelines for the remainder of the year.

Dickens is in a not too dissimilar position. The 33-year-old has been looking for a way back since losing his IBO featherweight title to Hector Sosa in July 2023. The loss finally persuaded the Liverpudlian to leave the featherweight division behind and he has recorded two low-profile stoppages since moving to 130lbs. Dickens has also been calling for a major fight but has been unable to snare a big name.

Although the fight has been put together on relatively short notice, Barrett and Dickens are two of the country's most disciplined fighters and will have leapt at the opportunity to get back to work on a major card.
