All bark but no bite.
That’s exactly how Alycia Baumgardner would describe Caroline Dubois.
For the last few months, Dubois (13-0-1, 5 KOs) has called Baumgardner out. For the most part, Baumgardner has either ignored her or shrugged off her innocuous comments.
So, with Baumgardner (17-1, 7 KOs) not giving her the attention she wanted, Dubois promised to stop Terri Harper in four rounds on Sunday in London, just like Baumgardner did to Harper in 2021.
Dubois broke her promise as she was forced to go the full 10 rounds, though she did score a fifth-round knockdown en route to a wide decision adding The Ring and WBO lightweight title to her WBC strap. Needless to say, Baumgardner wasn’t impressed.
“I watched a C-level fighter have a C performance,” Baumgardner said. “This the same chick that was talking bout beating me. She was talking bout getting Terri up out of there in the fourth round. You didn’t do that, you didn’t do that at all. That was a C-level performance. You had every chance to get her up out of there and you didn’t do it. You know why? It’s because you don’t believe in yourself. You was okay with what you did. I got Terri up out of there in the fourth round. I didn’t need a judge to tell me that I won that fight. When you talk about fighting me, make a statement.”
Dubois claims that her lackluster performance was due to an illness.
Now, the attention shifts to Baumgardner. The 31-year-old defends her Ring, IBF, WBA, and WBO junior lightweight titles against Bo Mi Re Shin, who Dubois beat last year, on April 17 at Madison Square Garden's Infosys Theater.
As long as she takes care of business, she’ll get ready for her next. But for those hoping that it will be against Dubois, Baumgardner shut that noise down quickly.
“I got my fight April 17, and then I’m gonna be fighting again this year and it’s not Caroline,” Baumgardner said. “I’m not ducking no smoke, I already said I would fight her but the money gotta be right. I am the money-maker. She needs me. She needs my name. I’ll put her in the dirt.”
