Brit Benn and American Garcia will square off for the latter's WBC welterweight title on September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Garcia, however, believes Benn will have trouble making weight.

For the first time in over four years, Benn will cut down to the 147-pound welterweight limit. Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) is convinced that even if Benn does manage to do so, it will ultimately take a toll on his performance.

“He seems like a pretty big guy,” Garcia said on the Mr. Verzace Podcast. “It’s just the fact that he went to 160 and now he’s gonna shoot all the way down to 147. He did it once with Regis [Prograis] at 150, but those three pounds when you’re cutting weight is much more than you think. That may play a part. I want him at his strongest but I’m just saying. I think he’s gonna struggle with making weight. Maybe he won’t, maybe he will.”

Before he beat Prograis on April 11, Benn fought twice at middleweight in back-to-back fights against Chris Eubank Jr., losing the first and winning the second. Before that, Benn fought Peter Dobson at a 151-pound catchweight in 2024 and Rodolfo Orozco at 154 pounds in 2023.

Despite the yo-yoing in weight, Benn has remained steadfast in his pursuit of a welterweight title, particularly the green and gold WBC strap his dad Nigel won at super middleweight in 1992.

However, the Ilford man knows it'll be tough getting to 147, just as Garcia has claimed.

“I've been walking around at 175-180 pounds for the past three years,” Benn told The Ring's CEO Rick Reeno.

“I had six weeks to make 150, I did it. You know why I did it? Because I’m disciplined. Is getting down to 147 gonna be grueling? Is it gonna be tough? Is it gonna be hard? Of course it is but I live for that. I ain’t no softie over here. I work hard, I train hard. The discipline will continue to prevail and that’s why I will make 147 and that’s why I will take that belt home.”
