Bill Haney deems Shakur Stevenson 'easy work' for son Devin

After his lopsided points win over Teofimo Lopez on The Ring 6, Shakur Stevenson solidified himself as one of the world's best pound-for-pound boxers.
However, Bill Haney believes his son, Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC), is an all-time great in the making.
The two have flirted with the idea of facing one another, having sparred several times as teenagers.
Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) would be the pre-fight favorite but according to Bill, his son would barely break a sweat becoming the first to crack the four-weight world champion's code.
"Shakur is easy work for Devin," Bill Haney told Andre Ward on All The Smoke Fight. "That's an easier fight than [Vasiliy] Lomachenko."
Back in May 2023, Devin defended his undisputed lightweight throne against Lomachenko with a close and contentious 12-round unanimous decision. Almost three years on, a lot has changed since then.
Three-weight world champion Haney dethroned Brian Norman to become the WBO welterweight titleholder in November, before Stevenson's memorable junior welterweight debut against Teofimo Lopez on January 31.
The weight classes and size difference make it a tricky fight to put together but Bill doesn't believe Stevenson has been adequately prepared to deal with someone of his son's caliber.
"I haven't seen him fight anybody I would even think is anywhere near a Devin Haney." Bill continued.
"I don't want to give away too much because it could be a possible fight next, but Shakur is on the list. He has a hell of a management team, coaching team and fanbase but when you talk about Devin, he has the best jab in boxing."
Fans will have to wait and see whether Haney, rated No. 9 on The Ring's pound-for-pound list, faces Stevenson next. He doubled down on plans to rematch Ryan Garcia next on DAZN's broadcast during Emanuel Navarrete's 11th-round stoppage win over Eduardo Nunez this weekend.
The 2020 Olympic silver medalist said he'd only be willing to fight Devin if they agreed to a catchweight, though Bill is aware that even without Stevenson, they're privileged with plenty of options.
"Tank [Gervonta Davis] is at the top of it," Bill added. "Shakur is next, Conor Benn is on it toward the bottom, Ryan Garcia, Keyshawn Davis. They're on the list."
