Dmitry Bivol believes Terence Crawford can do what he did to Canelo Alvarez in 2022 by shocking the world and beating the Mexican superstar.

The super middleweight king Alvarez and junior middleweight title holder Crawford are supposed to meet in September if Alvarez successfully gets past William Scull on May 3 in Saudi Arabia, with DAZN broadcasting the fight.

“For me, it’s an interesting fight and I would like to see the fight between two great fighters in their weight classes,” Bivol said on The Ring podcast.

“My first reaction, of course, was about the size of Crawford. Is it okay for him to move up two weight classes or not? But then I saw him in Dubai maybe a month ago. I thought, ‘He’s big.’ He has very good skills. He’s one of my favorite boxers. He’s able to win this fight. But there are a lot of small things which we don't know. We don't know how he will deal with it. He needs to get used to the power and pressure of 168 because it’s a big difference, to be honest. Maybe he will get used to it and how he’ll be feeling. But he’s able. He has good skills. He's awkward and can use both hands. It gives him benefits.”

Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) are both four-division champions and two of the best pound-for-pound greats of the last 15 years.

The 34-year-old Alvarez started his career at 139 pounds as a 15-year-old in 2005 and has gone on to win titles at 154, 160, 168, and 175 pounds. Alvarez can become a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion should he beat Skull.

The 37-year-old Crawford kicked off his career in 2008 as a 137-pounder and has won titles at lightweight, junior welterweight, welterweight, and junior middleweight. He was the undisputed champion at 140 and 147 pounds and currently holds the WBA’s 154-pound belt.

Once the fight is set, the stronger Alvarez should come in as a sizable betting favorite against smaller Crawford.

“It's not only about getting used to the power but being mentally ready,” said Bivol, who leveraged his size as a light heavyweight to beat Alvarez via unanimous decision.

“Mentality is very important for this fight as well. If he's mentally ready he will be OK with the punches ... Alvarez has good defense. It's one of his good sides. He uses his body a lot.”
