Keyshawn Davis has promised to beat the daylights out of Denys Berinchyk. But what else is new? It doesn’t matter if he’s fighting an opponent in the ring or Godzilla, Davis always believes he’ll do a number on someone.
Keyshawn Davis has promised to beat the daylights out of Denys Berinchyk. But what else is new? It doesn’t matter if he’s fighting an opponent in the ring or Godzilla, Davis always believes he’ll do a number on someone.
Berinchyk just so happens to be the next person on his radar. And, if you just looked at it on paper, there’s a reason why Davis’ threats could be prophetic.
Although they fight in the same weight class, Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) appears to be the larger man. He’s also 11 years younger than the current WBO champion. As The Ring’s No. 5 ranked lightweight made his way through the streets of New York recently, his team amped him up. They continually shouted “and the new” and “easy work.” Not everyone on his team, however, believes that the latter is actually true.
Brian "Bomac" McIntyre, Davis’ trainer, normally leads everyone when it comes to pre-fight trash talk. When he wasn’t busy pumping his man up, a slight look of concern was etched onto his face. It isn’t that he believes Davis will lose. Not even close. The confidence he has in the former Olympic silver medalist is boarding on hubris. So why the noncommittal look? Well, while he has all the faith in the world in Davis, he knows that Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) is someone to take seriously.
“He ain’t champion for nothing,” said Bomac to The Ring during a recent interview. “He ain’t get there for no reason. Obviously, he’s doing something good to be a champion.”
Before establishing himself, Berinchyk was asked to first prove himself against former multi-divisional champion, Emanuel Navarrete.
Picked to lose by many, the 36-year-old handled himself well. He boxed from the outside when needed and mixed it up on the inside when his back was against the ropes. His vagarious game plan left Navarrete without any answers.
That win, along with everything else he’s accomplished, has Bomac admitting that Berinchyk is the real deal.
“You gotta give him credit.”
