All flash, no substance. That was typically how most boxing observers categorized the game of Brian Norman. Simply put, he was too inconsistent.

That was typically how most boxing observers categorized the game of Brian Norman. Simply put, he was too inconsistent.
Remember when the 24-year-old struggled in back-to-back points victories over journeymen Jesus Antonio Perez Campos and Rodrigo Damian Coria? He does.
Filled with tons of talent, many were under the impression that his full potential would never be realized. So, when he sauntered to the ring against Giovanni Santillan this past May, Norman (26-0, 20 KOs) did so as a sizable underdog.
Things were somewhat even during the first few rounds until Norman began putting it all together. In a single night, he looked like the bright young star many believed he always was. The final few rounds were a massacre as Norman pummeled Santillan, eventually rendering him unconscious in the 10th.
But, even with the WBO title draped over his shoulder, Norman doesn’t believe he gets the respect he deserves. Those who doubt he’s actually turned a corner are likely pointing to his past poor performances. But juxtaposing who he was to who he is now isn’t a fair assessment.
“People still think that last fight was a fluke,” explained Norman to Jamel Herring on the Bet On Yourself Podcast. “Things change, people learn, people put work in and anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
If The Ring’s No. 5 ranked welterweight wants to be revered, he’ll have to clear out his division. Talks of a showdown between himself and Jaron Ennis, currently ranked No. 1 by The Ring and presently in possession of the IBF strap, have taken place. Money though, like most big fights, proved to be an immovable obstacle.
Eventually, Norman expects to strip Ennis of his championship status, along with the rest of the division’s belt holders. If he does, that’ll only be the beginning.
“I’m gonna take over this whole boxing game.”
