Brian Norman Sr. is writing a check that his son will eventually have to cash.

Brian Norman Jr., his son and current WBO welterweight titlist, will seemingly have to fight Jaron “Boots” Ennis if he intends on calling himself the world's best welterweight.

To their credit, the Normans aren’t tucking their tails and hiding. Instead, they're puffing their chests out and telling Ennis to bring it on.

Norman Sr.’s mind is incredibly sharp. He can recall most of his childhood and replay fights with pinpoint accuracy from the 1980s. In knowing that, he becomes annoyed whenever fans or pundits try to put words in his mouth.

On more than one occasion, Norman Sr. believes his words were misconstrued. For whatever reason, some of the public is convinced that he said his son would walk through Ennis without breaking a sweat. That’s erroneous. Ennis is as talented as they come and recently made it look easy against Eimantas Stanionis.

Calling Ennis out is one thing but calling him an easy touch would be ludicrous. So, with a chance to make things clear, Norman Sr. officially set the record straight.

“I have never said Boots is an easy fight,” said Norman Sr. on MillCity Boxing. “I said my son would sleep him. Boots is not an easy fight for nobody.”

Giving out naps is what Norman Jr. does best. In his last two fights, he handed his opponents a pillow and blanket before putting them to bed. Having power is salient but it won’t be something they’re relying on.

It hasn’t been a large sample size, but Ennis has looked flat-out unbeatable so far, or close to it. Norman Sr., however, has noticed a few flaws. He won’t give out any free game in terms of what he sees but he’s confident that he’ll put together a structured and well-thought-out game plan that his son could use in a future unification.
