Bruce Carrington has more options than most.
Each of the four sanctioning bodies has his name either near or at the very top of their rankings. The IBF views him as their fourth-best contender. The WBC believes he’s the second-best contender in the weight class. The WBO and WBC, however, are convinced that he’s the best featherweight outside of their current champion.
Angelo Leo, the IBF titlist, doesn’t appear to be the clear focus of Carrington. Neither is Rafael Espinoza, despite being on the verge of being his mandatory challenger. Instead, the 27-year-old has taken a liking to Nick Ball and Stephen Fulton. For whatever reason, their titles shine a bit brighter in his eyes, making those showdowns even more enticing.
Whoever of the two is willing to give him a shot, he’ll happily take. Nevertheless, while he doesn’t exactly care who he fights first, he does have a preference.
“I would like to fight Nick Ball, then Stephen Fulton,” admitted Fulton to FightHype.com.
Currently, Fulton is still enjoying the championship life after becoming a two-division belt holder earlier this year. He hasn’t revealed his future plans just yet but Carrington is hoping he’s a part of them.
As for Ball, he made a routine defense of his belt against TJ Doheny a few weeks ago. Carrington isn’t on his mind in the slightest but Naoya Inoue is. The 28-year-old is crossing his fingers in the hopes that he’ll move up relatively soon.
If Carrington has any sort of patience, he’ll need to use all of it as the waiting game continues. His call is now on standby but while he remains on hold, he decided to revisit his wishlist. After giving it some further thought, he’s now backtracking in terms of which champion he wants to take down first.
“It really don’t matter. Both fights would be dope. A fight with me and Stephen Fulton would go crazy. Nick Ball, I feel like that would be a great fight too.”
