Espinoza, who hasn’t come close to losing a fight, has stopped 10 of his last 11 opponents. Carrington, though, isn’t unnerved about his KO streak or his power.
Waiting around and being patient has gotten Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington nowhere. Instead of being a nice guy who waits his turn, he’s pushing the issue.
After easily outpointing Mateus Heita at Hulu Theater in New York’s Madison Square Garden this past weekend, Carrington draped the WBC interim featherweight title over his shoulder. Once he did, he grabbed the microphone during his postfight press conference and turned his attention towards Rafael Espinoza, the WBO beltholder.
Espinoza (27-0, 23 KOs) smiled devilishly while wearing his Polo shirt and sitting in his ringside seat. It isn’t every day that he hears his name on the lips of an opponent. But even with Carrington placing a target on his back, until he gets his hands on a full title, it doesn’t sound like Espinoza is too excited about facing him.
“I need to see what’s on the table,” Espinoza told The Ring recently. “My goal is to unify.”
Despondence and annoyance shouldn’t set in just yet for Carrington. The interim WBC title wasn’t what he ultimately wanted, but it does place him one step closer to a shot at a beltholder. With Stephen Fulton holding the full title, Carrington (16-0, 9 KOs) could be next in line to face him.

Espinoza smiled as he continued to discuss the possibility of facing the up-and-coming New Yorker. Yet, that doesn’t mean a fight between them can happen next. If Carrington truly wants to get his hands on Espinoza sooner rather then later, then he’ll have to take the mundane route and keep building his profile.
“If he earns his spot and he’s my mandatory challenger, of course I’m gonna fight him," Espinoza said.
