WBC featherweight champion Bruce Carrington's first defense is set.
The Brooklyn native will take on Rene Palacios (19-0-1, 10 KOs) on the undercard of Abdullah Mason vs. Joe Cordina on July 4 at Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Mason's hometown.
For Palacios, ranked No. 12 by the WBC, a fight against Carrington (17-0, 10 KOs) represents a significant step up in competition. In his most recent bout, the 25-year-old Mexican defeated Sulaiman Segawa by a split decision.
Carrington, The Ring’s No. 3-ranked 126-pounder, took home his first world title on January 31 by overcoming a few shaky moments to stop Carlos Castro in the ninth round at Madison Square Garden.
Joining Carrington on the undercard will be his good friend and highly ranked welterweight contender Delante Johnson. The 2020 Olympian will take on Christopher Guerrero.
