Cameron (23-1, 8 KOs) outlasted Mayer (22-3, 5 KOs) through 10 rounds to win by unanimous decision, unifying The Ring, WBC, WBO and WBA junior middleweight titles at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, England.

Ranked No. 5 pound-for-pound with The Ring before the fight, Cameron will likely jump to No. 3, where Mayer currently sits. She's also the only woman to hold a win over Katie Taylor, who won their rematch six months later in 2023.

Asked after her win over Mayer whether that victory topped beating Taylor, one of the greatest female fighters ever, Cameron agreed it did.

"I think it topped [beating Taylor], because I shut her up," Cameron told Sky Sports. "That was the plan. I think any time you humble someone, I think that's the icing on the cake for me.

"I've had so much respect for Mikaela, from the amateur days when we were both boxing for America and GB, I had a lot of respect for her, but she just got in my face, started ramming her head in and saying that I was saying stuff [at the weigh-in] ... my lips didn't move. Maybe it's the best thing that happened to me.

"I think she messed up then, she really did mess up, and obviously she was saying she was going to knock me out, he was going to beat me so bad ... that was in the back of my head, but the last straw was the weigh-in, and it just switched for me."

The fight was a fiery one which was action-packed from the very beginning, and the hot-tempered nature continued after the contest had finished.

Cameron and Mayer continued trash-talking, with the Brit telling her counterpart that she was too slow and delusional for thinking she won the fight. The pair then agreed that a rematch would be suitable, but this time with three-minute rounds.

Mayer also requested the sequel takes place in the United States. Her loss to Cameron signalled the third time she's been beat in England on the cards, after losing to Alycia Baumgardner in October 2022 and Natasha Jonas in January 2024.

Cameron, though, didn't sound too happy with Mayer's demands, but admonished herself for fighting recklessly and getting cut by a clash of heads.

"She's just insecure, she talks so much rubbish," Cameron added. "To be fair, I learnt a lesson there, don't start messing about switching off and trying to wind someone up, you get cut, so that was a bit stupid of me.

"I think Mikaela's just a bit of an idiot."
