After a long and protracted build up, lightweights Cameron Vuong, 8-0 (4 KOs), and Jordan Flynn, 11-1-1 (1 KO), finally made it into the ring at Altrincham’s Planet Ice.

The fight was the main support to the professional debut of 2024 Olympian, Pat Brown. DAZN are steaming the event globally.

Vuong and Flynn have been linked to a fight for what seems like an eternity but injuries have caused two proposed dates to be cancelled and, for a time, it looked like the fight may never happen.

Last November, Vuong took his career in a different direction and stepped up to fight former European champion, Gavin Gwynne. Although he escaped with a controversial decision win, Vuong was pushed to the very limit by the game Welshman.

With Flynn also looking for a way to reignite his career after winning two low profile six rounders last year, the conditions were perfect for the two to finally settle their grudge.

Although the two have developed a dislike for each other, there were no early fireworks. Flynn got directly on the front foot but 22 year-old Vuong tried to calmly draw his early sting by stepping back, covering up and countering sharply whenever Flynn tried to launch an attack.

Flynn was unfazed and continued to make the running. He sprung into his attacks and although he landed nothing significant, he was making the early running.

Slowly but surely, Vuong began to find his range and score with his jab. He made Flynn second guess his attacks slightly and timed one lead uppercut perfectly. As the round drew to a close, Vuong put Flynn over with a cuffing shot high on the head. Flynn wasn’t hurt and bounced up and exchanged a couple of hard left hooks. Nonetheless, his solid start had been all but wiped out.

Vuong suddenly appeared more confident. He tried to keep Flynn at range with hard, straight shots and the man from Oxfordshire lacked the imagination or ability to get as close, as often.

Faced with a one dimensional, stationary target, Vuong found it easy to hit and hurt his man. A chopping right hand stiffened Flynn’s legs in the sixth and although he survived Vuong’s follow up attack, the writing appeared to be on the wall.

Flynn tried to retaliate but his aggressiveness created more openings, and Vuong hurt him with a number of lead uppercuts. Eventually, referee, Howard Foster, stepped into stop the action with Flynn under heavy fire.

The official time was 1.10 of round number seven and Vuong collect’s a WBO European title. More importantly, he injected some excitement back into his career.

"Proud moment for me winning my first title," Flynn said after the fight. "I started a bit slow but once I found my groove I got him out of there."

"I said I wanted a stoppage or it's a failure, and that's what I did. I'll fight any man on any day."
