Unbeaten junior middleweight contender Charles Conwell will continue building off a momentous 2024 campaign when he returns April 19 to face Jorge Garcia Perez.

The bout will serve as a co-main event to a Golden Boy Promotions card on DAZN headlined by Gabriela Fundora, as the 112-pound undisputed champion defends her titles against  Marilyn Badillo at the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California. 

“I think Jorge Garcia Perez is a very good opponent,” Conwell told The Ring in an interview. “He has some decent guys on his resume that he has beaten. He’s world-ranked, so he’s definitely a tough, game opponent for sure. I watched some of his fights already and I’m coming up with the game plan to put it all together.”

Conwell (21-0, 16 KOs), The Ring’s No. 9 rated 154-pounder, had a solid bounceback run last year, signing a promotional deal with Golden Boy and going on to score three stoppage victories against Nathaniel Gallimore, Khiary Gray, and Gerardo Luis Vergara. The 2016 United States Olympian didn’t fight at all in 2023 as he was in the midst of changing managers and promoters.

Each of the losses Garcia Perez (32-4, 26 KOs) has endured throughout his 12-year career have been by decisions in Mexico, with three of them being split decision defeats. The 28-year-old Mexican has fought just once in the United States, knocking out Ilias Essaoudi in one round on a Top Rank show in September.

Garcia Perez is ranked No. 3 by the WBO and No. 11 by the IBF.

Conwell is ranked No. 2 by the WBO, No. 3 by the WBC, and No. 14 by the IBF.
