Albert "Chop Chop" Gonzalez officially announced himself as a serious threat to the featherweight champions.
Gonzalez (19-0, 12 KOs), ranked No. 9 by The Ring at 126 pounds and trained/managed by Robert Garcia, used an unrelenting offensive attack to the body to blast former title challenger Edward Vazquez (20-4, 6 KOs) in the second round on Saturday.
The fight was scheduled for 10 rounds, but Gonzalez needed four minutes and four seconds to score a showstopping stoppage win at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, as part of a Top Rank Boxing show on DAZN.
CompuBox credited Gonzalez with landing 31 shots, 16 of which connected to the body. The final punches, a left and right to the body, sent Vazquez down for the 10-count.
"I have to go back and look at the tape, but two rounds is not enough to be able to look over," Gonzalez said during his post-fight remarks. "I wanted to stay in the pocket a little bit and see what his choice of punches were, and when I saw he was a little slow, I caught him in between his shots and with the body shot."
Gonzalez, a 24-year-old Southern California native, improved to 4-0 with four KO wins during a breakout 2026. Gonzalez's last three fights have lasted a total of five rounds. He's rated No. 8 (IBF), 10th (WBO) and 11th (WBC).
Vazquez came into the clash on a three-fight winning streak after a one-sided, seventh-round stoppage loss against Espinoza in May 2024.
Gonzalez-Vazquez served as the co-main event for the junior lightweight title unification bout between O'Shaquie Foster and Emanuel Navarrete.
