An all Cameroonian-French battle could be in store to fill the top contender slot in the IBF ratings.
The Ring has learned that Kevin Lele Sadjo has been contacted to next enter talks for a super middleweight title eliminator against Christian Mbilli. Once confirmed that both parties are interested, the IBF will then begin the negotiation period to reach an agreement.
Both boxers are originally from Cameroon. Mbilli (28-0, 23 KOs), The Ring No. 2 super middleweight, is now based in Montreal, while Sadjo (24-0, 21 KOs) lives in France.
The winner will become the mandatory challenger to IBF super middleweight titleholder is William Scull (23-0, 9 KOs), a Germany-based Cuban who is The Ring’s No. 6 contender.
Sadjo entered the mix after Diego Pacheco (22-0, 18 KOs), The Ring No. 4 super middleweight, opted out of the proceedings. It wasn't out of disinterest more so than a scheduling conflict. Pacheco is already set to next face Steven Nelson (20-0, 16 KOs) on Jan. 25 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Mbilli (28-0, 23 KOs), The Ring No. 1 super middleweight, was also previously attached to a WBC-ordered eliminator with Tijuana's Jaime Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs). The ruling was made earlier this month during the WBC convention.
Munguia, previously The Ring No. 1 super middleweight, ruined those plans and his career progress after a shocking sixth-round knockout to Bruno Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs) last weekend in Tijuana.
Sadjo is perfect as a pro, complete with three wins on the year.
The squat 34-year old stopped Giovanni De Carolis inside of eight rounds on March 9 in Levallois-Perret, France. It marked his sixth straight win inside the distance dating back to his Dec. 2021 sixth-round, body shot knockout of Jack Cullen in perhaps his finest feat to date.
Sadjo's knockout streak ended in June, when he went the twelve-round distance for the first time. It resulted in a unanimous decision win over Durval Elias Palacio in Paris.
A return to his knockout ways came just last weekend. Sadjo stopped faded former title challenger Diego Chavez in the fourth round on Dec. 14 in Nassau, Bahamas. Ironically, the win came on a WBA 'KO To Drugs' show.
Mbilli has also scored three wins this year to further advance in the super middleweight rankings.
The most significant came in his most recent outing.
Mbilli was extended all ten rounds in a unanimous decision over Sergiy Derevyanchenko (15-6, 10 KOs) on Aug. 17 in Quebec City, Canada. It snapped a three-fight knockout streak, which followed a ten-round points win over Carlos Gongora (21-1, 16 KOs at the time) last March.
