Shields (16-0, 3 KOs), a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time undisputed champion, will be in her third fight at heavyweight.
The final hurdle is cleared for Claressa Shields’ first defense of her undisputed heavyweight title against Lani Daniels on Saturday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, on DAZN.
Shields and Daniels weighed in at under 175 pounds Friday. Shields tipped the scale at 174.6, while Daniels was 170.4.
Shields (16-0, 3 KOs), a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time undisputed champion, will be in her third fight at heavyweight. In her first fight at the weight class, she stopped Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in the second round on July 27, 2024, to win the WBC heavyweight title. Shields added the other three major titles to her ledger in her last fight on Feb. 2 when she dominated and dropped Danielle Perkins en route to a unanimous decision to become the first woman to become the undisputed heavyweight champion.
Daniels (11-2-2, 1 KO), the former IBF heavyweight champion and current IBF light heavyweight champion, will be in her first fight in the U.S. and enters her bout vs. Shields on a seven-fight winning streak. In her last fight at heavyweight in 2023, the New Zealand native defended her heavyweight belt with a fourth-round stoppage victory over Razel Mohammed.
In her two fights since, Daniels won the vacant IBF light heavyweight title with a majority decision over Desley Robinson on Dec. 2, 2023, and defeated Bolatito Oluwole by unanimous decision on Sept. 7 in her lone title defense.
Also on the docket is the return of former junior middleweight champion Tony Harrison after an over two-year layoff. Harrison (29-4-1, 21 KOs), who will be fighting in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan, for the first time since 2014, weighed in under the middleweight limit at 159.2 for his middleweight debut vs Edward Diaz (15-6, 12 KOs), who stepped on the scale at 159.
