Keyshawn Davis officially joined the championship club.
In order to get there, the former Olympic silver medalist was forced to put on a show against Denys Berinchyk.
This past weekend, at the Theater in New York’s Madison Square Garden, Davis made it look incredibly easy against Denys Berinchyk, beating him down and dropping him before eventually stopping him in the fourth.
A world title now validates Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) in the eyes of some. But for Claressa Shields, that was never truly needed. Simply put, his skills spoke for themselves.
Davis though, is now walking around with an untouchable amount of confidence, something Shields isn’t mad at. Davis’ performance was surgical. He easily sliced through Berinchyk’s defense and showed the type of power that would stop practically everyone in their tracks.
Now, it’s all about what’s next. Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) has already made it clear that a showdown against Shakur Stevenson will never be on the table due to their friendship. With that said, he’s more than willing to unify against WBA champion, Gervonta Davis, or IBF titlist, Vasiliy Lomachenko. If neither of them is available, Davis wouldn’t mind matchups against Raymond Muratalla and William Zepeda. He’s also open to finally ending his amateur rivalry with Andy Cruz.
Regardless of who he eventually faces, Shields has a difficult time picking an opponent she would favor over him.
“Everybody knows Shakur is my number one,” Shields recently told The Ring. “I’ll give Tank next. Then Keyshawn.”
Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) is set to return to the ring this weekend when he takes on Floyd Schofield. Gervonta Davis, on the other hand, has his own title defense lined up. On March 1st in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, The Ring’s No. 1 ranked lightweight and current WBA champion will face Lamont Roach in a pay-per-view headliner.
