Colombian flyweight contender Yuberjen Martinez hasn't got time to waste at 34 and having signed a promotional deal with All Star Boxing, has been promised a world title shot in the near future as he seeks to translate his esteemed amateur pedigree int...
All Stars Boxing have announced the signing of unbeaten Colombian flyweight Yuberjen Martinez.
Promotional head Tuto Zabala brokered a deal with the two-time Olympian after his most recent fight - a second-round stoppage of Juan Aguero - at last week's WBO convention in Bogota, Colombia.
"I'm very happy to welcome the [2016] Olympic silver medallist Yuberjen to our team," Zabala told The Ring.
"We have been talking for a while on working together and it has finally happened. Our company works mainly with small weight divisions, we for sure will get him a world title shot in a very short period of time. There is no time to lose. Yuberjen is one of Colombia's most popular fighters, where we plan to bring out our ESPN Knockout shows series in 2026."
Martinez (6-0, 6 KOs) had over 350 amateur fights, went 7-0 in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) as well as representing Colombia at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.
He won a cache of titles in the unpaid code, including bronze at the 2017 World Championships, gold medals at the Central and Caribbean Games (2018, 2023) and South American Games gold in 2018.
The 34-year-old from Turbo, a port city in north Colombia, turned professional in July 2022 after reaching the 2020 Olympic quarterfinals.
However, progress was slow and he returned to amateur boxing in an attempt to feature in Paris, but lost in the Olympic qualifiers and returned to the paid ranks.
"I want to express my most sincere gratitude to All Star Boxing for all the support and trust," Martinez's statement read. "Thank you for believing in me, accompanying me every step of the way, for pushing me to keep growing inside and outside the ring.
"You're not just a promoter; you're a family that inspires and guides. Thank you once again for being part of this dream and for making it all worthwhile. We're going for more—always with the head held high and eyes on the goal."
Martinez continues Zabala's close links with the South American country. He first went there 41 years ago with Miguel "Happy" Lora and helped Lora capture the WBC bantamweight title.
Since then, he's worked with other Colombian world champions, Sugar Baby Rojas and Carlos Maussa, as well as once-touted Joel Julio.
