CAOIMHIN Agyarko stayed ready and now, he's reaping the rewards.

Having stepped into the breach on ten days' notice, he emerged with his unbeaten record intact after a comeback win to outpoint Ryan Kelly in their ten-round British junior-middleweight title eliminator.

Now, the 28-year-old (17-0, 7 KOs) will be rewarded with a big slot on the Lewis Crocker vs. Paddy Donovan 2 undercard, as Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn hinted at a revised August-September timeline.

In conversation with The Ring after last week's Sheffield show, Hearn revealed Agyarko had already signed a contract agreement to fight Ishmael Davis (13-2, 6 KOs), assuming he prevailed as planned against Birmingham's Kelly (19-6-1, 8 KOs).

Despite a so-so start, the Belfast native produced and Hearn declared that matchup will happen next in a "brilliant" duel as Agyarko prepares to venture back home for his next outing at the back end of this summer.

Sam Eggington's victory over an in-form Lee Cutler 24 hours later on BOXXER's Birmingham show happened to also be an eliminator at 154-pounds, with Sam Gilley (18-1, 9 KOs) already in camp preparing for a date to rematch Louis Greene for British honours laid vacant by Samuel Antwi (17-2, 8 KOs).

Davis' undisclosed injury hasn't appeared to sideline him too long though, having posted pictures and videos out in Miami training, while completing sparring rounds with former IBF super-middleweight world title challenger Vladimir Shishkin (16-1, 10 KOs) earlier this week.

Shishkin, who lost a competitive 12-round decision to William Scull last October 19, sits as the IBF's No. 2-rated contender and given written confirmation from the sanctioning body that he's due a second title shot no later than August 17. Scull's surprising shot at undisputed gold comes next weekend in Riyadh, when facing Canelo Alvarez in the future Hall of Famer's first non-North America appearance.

Davis, who began spiritedly before being overwhelmed and stopped in six rounds by WBC's No. 1-ranked contender Serhii Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs) last December 21, knows there's work to do before he can justify meeting another world-level opponent.

Agyarko, who defended his No. 5 WBA ranking against Kelly, previously kept busy with decision victories on small-hall shows while awaiting an opening after exploring free agency as his Matchroom contract expired.

Hearn acknowledged difficulties they had to consider - as expected when looking to host an event at a football stadium - exploratory talks have emerged this month between them and Windsor Park.

In any case, he's not worried about returning to the 11,000-seater SSE Arena instead.

"August or September. It's a very special night at the SSE, it's very difficult to do it [stage the fight] outside and we're not lacking ambition in that respect, but maybe we'll do it at the arena."
