It's bombs away for most of Pitbull's fights. But could Cruz be better served with calculated missile strikes instead?

Enter renowned coach and Canelo Alvarez confidant Eddy Reynoso, who's been tasked with getting Cruz (28-3-2, 18 KOs) to the next level ahead of his fight against Nestor Bravo (24-1, 17 KOs) on Saturday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego on DAZN.

“One of the main reasons I want to work with Eddy is his experience and the tremendous job he’s done with Canelo and a long list of top fighters,” Cruz said during a media workout.

“His ability to understand fighters, both mentally and technically, and to read each situation, has allowed him to reach the top of the sport. I believe Eddy has the qualities, experience and knowledge we need to compete with the elite of boxing today.

"I want to showcase everything we’ve worked on and prepared for during this great training camp."

The 28-year-old Mexican went unbeaten in three fights last year. He outpointed Angel Fierro in a February war and was supposed to face him in a July rematch, but the fight was scrapped when Fierro blew weight. Instead, Cruz defeated Omar Salcido Gamez by unanimous decision for the WBC interim 140-pound title. He's coming off a majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in December, a fight many believe Roach edged.

Cruz's 2024 campaign was highlighted by a career-best stoppage win against Rolando Romero followed by a split decision defeat against Jose Valenzuela.

“Bravo is a very tough fighter who always comes forward and likes to put on a show,” Cruz said. “I expect Bravo to come out with an aggressive mindset, but we have our own strategy to counter his style. … I want to give the fans in San Diego and coming up from Tijuana a fight to remember. I’m sure I’m going to feel right at home.”

Bravo, a 32-year-old Puerto Rican, stopped Pedro Campa last time out in January following the lone loss of his career against Xolisani Ndongeni in March of last year.

If Cruz beats Bravo – he's a -600 betting favorite – he'll be in prime position to face the winner of the October 24 fight between full WBC 140-pound champion Dalton Smith and challenger Alberto Puello.

“I want to make a statement and leave no doubt that I deserve to face the winner of Smith-Puello,” Cruz said. “I’m also ready to face any champion in the division. And why not think about facing Teofimo Lopez, Ryan García or any 140-pound champion, such as Gary Antuanne Russell, in the not-too-distant future? But first, we have to take care of business against Nestor Bravo and win on Saturday."
