Darius Fulghum came into his Saturday night fight promising he’d put the super middleweight division on notice.

Fulghum, the WBA’s No. 5 ranked contender at 168 pounds, further proved his position by dropping Winfred Harris Jr. in the second and stopping him in the fourth round of a one-sided fight.

Fulghum connected with 113 of 265 shots, while Harris sloppily survived for most of the contest to land 32 of 211.

“I’m happy. It’s a great start to the year,” said Fulghum. “It’s still constant growth and evolution on my part. I felt comfortable and started looking for the one shot. He was a very durable opponent and could take the shots and smothered. He didn’t look like he wanted to be in there.”

Fulghum (14-0, 12 KOs) got the attention of Harris (22-3-2, 10 KOs) from the opening round, momentarily staggering him with a rifle-like right hand to the head. Fulghum fired off his heavy right hand several more times in the second and serious damage was done in the final 30 seconds as he dropped Harris with a shot in the corner. Fulghum slumped in the ropes but never fell as referee Ray Corona started his 10-count.

One-way action ensued in the third round, and if it wasn’t for Harris pushing Fulghum down and halting momentum, Fulghum may have stopped the fight then as Corona closely looked at the action.

Before the fourth round, Corona called over the ringside physician and asked him to inspect Harris, who said he could continue.

But the body language was clear he could not, and after more one-sided offense from Fulghum, Corona stepped in and stopped the fight.

“I want to please the fans. They want to see someone on their back,” said Fulghum, a 28-year-old from Houston who also holds a nursing degree from Prairie View A&M University.

“I was trying to deliver that one punch rather than having the referee stop it but it’s part of the game. We have to keep evolving. I want to fight the big names in 2025, and I trust my team and Golden Boy to do that. They build champions.”

Fulghum versus Harris served as the co-main event for the Golden Boy Promotions show headlined by junior welterweights Oscar Duarte and Miguel Madueno at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on DAZN.
