SOLIHULL, England — Dave Allen could find himself in a big-money fight against a mystery opponent next after Eddie Hearn revealed to The Ring that plans to fight Jeamie 'TKV' Tshikeva for the British heavyweight title may be put on hold.
Allen (24-7-2, 19 KOs), a much-loved and popular figure among British fans, revived his career following a controversial defeat to Johnny Fisher last December, before going on to stop the 'Romford Bull' in the 5th round of their May 17 rematch.
Since then, Hearn, who re-signed Allen on a two-fight deal as a result of a contractual stipulation from the Fisher victory, has spoken of his excitement at guiding the Doncaster man into some winnable but lucrative fights over the next 6-12 months.
A clash for what will become the vacant British title, after the announcement that champion David Adeleye will fight Filip Hrgovic next, against Tshikeva was one of those options.
A potential fight with Deontay Wilder, who takes on Tyrrell Herndon on June 27 in Wichita, Kansas, has been floated, too.
However, Hearn says there's been multiple approaches for Allen to fight against a 'top 5 heavyweight' in his next fight. It's thought that a fight against Joseph Parker for his WBO 'interim' heavyweight title, could be on the table, though Hearn wouldn't be drawn on any names.
"There's actually a few options," Hearn told The Ring. "The plan, as of about 72 hours ago, was to fight Jamie TKV for the British title, but we've since had two big approaches.
"I kind of always thought of Dave as a guy that you just sling in for the money, because you never know with him ... but he's got ability, and he's kind of turned the corner a little bit in terms of his training, and he's become unbelievably popular.
"So, I'd like to see him win the British title, headline the Sheffield Arena, but if it's the amount of money that will give him six or seven en-suites and all he ever wanted was one, we've got to look at it."
Quizzed on whether the fight in question would be on a Riyadh Season card, Hearn remained coy.
"Maybe, not necessarily."
