Oscar De La Hoya sees one of two things happening when Canelo Alvarez faces Terence Crawford on Saturday in Las Vegas: Either Crawford carefully outboxes Alvarez to win a decision or Alvarez wins by knockout.
Oscar De La Hoya envisions two possible scenarios unfolding when Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford square off Saturday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The Hall of Fame fighter-turned-promoter shared his final prediction and analysis on social media Thursday.
“Everybody is excited about the fight, and the electricity is in the air," De La Hoya said. "It should be a good fight. Let me tell you why: Crawford is coming up two weight classes and off of a one-year layoff. That's a huge advantage for Canelo. If Canelo forces his will on him – he'll probably be 190 pounds inside the ring on fight night – I give him a great shot in the seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth rounds to knockout Crawford. If he doesn't do that, then Crawford is going to box his ears off. It might be another [Floyd] Mayweather vs. Canelo when Mayweather was just schooling [Alvarez] and making him look silly. That can happen again this Saturday.
“Everything has to be perfect for Crawford. He has to use his footwork, speed, combinations, and ring IQ. He has to stay disciplined. For Canelo, all he has to do is take Crawford's punches. But he cannot be comfortable inside the ring, because if Canelo's comfortable, the 12 rounds are going to go by fast. ... Canelo cannot handle boxers. That's the bottom line. He's too heavy on his feet. For Crawford, his downfall can be his heart and his ability to stand in there and trade punches. If you get caught by Canelo's punch, you're going down. You're going to get knocked out. I have it a close decision for Crawford, if it goes to decision, and a late knockout for Canelo.”
As of Thursday afternoon, DraftKings has the undisputed super middleweight champion Alvarez listed as a minus-165 betting favorite. Alvarez was listed at minus-185 just last week.
Crawford is currently a plus-135 betting underdog. The over/under on the number of rounds the fight is projected to last is set to 10.5.
An Alvarez stoppage win is listed as +380, and a Crawford decision win is listed at +200.
