Dillian Whyte said all the right things leading up to his fight with the 20-year-old prospect. He also appeared to be in the best physical shape of his life. But once the bell rang, he suffered the same fate as other Itauma opponents.
Moses Itauma isn't interested in taking the slow, mundane route of a normal prospect. If it were up to him, he’d jump on the fast track.
Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) has ripped through all of the competition. Dillian Whyte, however, was supposed to make him work for his victory.
All week long, Whyte (31-4, 21 KOs) said all the right things. He also appeared to be in the best physical shape of his life. But once the bell rang, he suffered the same fate as other Itauma opponents. It took the 20-year-old less than two minutes to get rid of him in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this past weekend.
Afterwards, Itauma stepped up to the post-fight podium and said that he would love nothing more than to match up with Oleksandr Usyk next. His Excellency Turki Alalshikh also wants to throw Itauma in the deep end with the undisputed heavyweight champion.
Derek Chisora, however, hates it.
“Usyk would blow the smoke out of him,” Chisora told The Ring. “Usyk would kill him.”
By and large, Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) has dominated most who have stood before him. And recently, he did it again.
Usyk made it 2-0 against Daniel Dubois, brutally stopping him in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium on July 19.
In all likelihood, Usyk and Itauma won't cross paths next. Chisora would rather see him in there with fighters who can give him the experience he desperately needs.
Chisora was under the impression that Whyte was more than capable of doing that. But since he wasn’t, there was only one way he could describe his former rival's performance.
“I’m disappointed.”
