WBO president Gustavo Olivieri announced that the purse bid had been ordered on Monday. Davis was named Haney’s mandatory challenger on June 30, and the two sides had 20 days to reach a deal.

The purse bid will take place on July 27 at WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The minimum bid is $200,000, and Haney will receive 75% of the winning bid, while Davis will receive 25%.

Haney (33-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC), The Ring’s No. 1-ranked welterweight and No. 8-ranked fighter pound-for-pound, won the WBO title with a one-sided decision over Brian Norman Jr. on November 22 in Saudi Arabia. The win made Haney a three-division champion.

Haney, 27, has been rumored to sign with Zuffa Boxing and could face Ring and WBO 140-pound titleholder Shakur Stevenson in his next fight. Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs), The Ring’s No. 1-ranked lightweight and No. 3-ranked fighter pound-for-pound, signed with Zuffa Boxing on July 9.

Davis (15-0, 10 KOs, 1 NC) previously held the WBO lightweight title after stopping then-titleholder Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round in February 2025. He lost the belt on the scales after missing weight by over four pounds ahead of a scheduled fight against Edwin De Los Santos in June 2025, which was postponed due to him missing weight.

The 27-year-old from Norfolk, Virginia, moved up to 140 pounds and notched a 12th-round stoppage of Jamaine Ortiz on January 31 and a unanimous decision over Nahir Albright on May 16 before deciding to move up to welterweight.
