Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that Diego Pacheco will become the face of the super middleweight division.
Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn believes he has the guy who will eventually stand tall as the new face of the super middleweight division.
Diego Pacheco (24-0, 18 KOs) has another chance to prove Hearn’s declarations are not far-fetched when he faces Kevin Lele Sadjo (26-0, 23 KOs) on December 13 at the Adventist Health Arena in Stockton, California.
“Pacheco is the future at 168 pounds,” Hearn said on DAZN. “The Sadjo fight is perfect. Sadjo is ranked in the top 10 by all of the governing bodies, but Pacheco is the man to replace Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford at 168 pounds. He's the future. He's going to be there for a long time. …
"There is going to be a lot of fragmentation with Crawford at 168. There are going to be some mandatories coming in. … This is the final kind of test before all of the big names. I think Jaime Munguia, Hamzah Sheeraz, and Christian Mbilli are what's next for Pacheco when he goes through Sadjo.”
Sadjo, a 35-year-old Cameroonian-French contender, has never fought in the United States, and his resume doesn’t feature a hallmark win.
Pacheco is looking to get back to scoring stoppages after 12-round unanimous decision wins against Steven Nelson in January and Trevor McCumby in July.
“We're back for fight number 25 against a really good opponent in Sadjo,” Pacheco said. “I'm excited to bring it back to Stockton, California. It should be a great turnout and a great night of boxing.
“You can say that, for sure, [that this is the kind of fight you don't need judges for]. We both have knockout power and we're both coming to win. I am definitely looking to get back to my knockout ways. Whatever it takes to win. I'm ready to go. ... I am ready to take on all of the big fights.”
