Sometimes, fighters milk their world titles. The paydays they receive increase tenfold and their popularity often skyrockets. Because of that, taking on soft touches has become more of the norm.

Daniel Dubois could’ve followed that blueprint. The Ring’s No. 2 ranked heavyweight took home the interim IBF world title against Filip Hrgovic before being eventually elevated to full champion. In his first defense, he took out Anthony Joshua, stopping him in the fifth round at the tail end of a fantastic 2024 campaign.

Dubois, to start off his year, could’ve picked just about any name out of a hat. Still, even without any mandatories in the way, the 27-year-old is giving one of the best heavyweights on the planet a shot at his crown. On February 22nd, he’ll lace 'em up against The Ring’s No. 3 ranked heavyweight, Joseph Parker.

Time will tell whether or not facing a dangerous former champion, one who’s on a run, was a sagacious decision. With that said, fighting a bottom-feeder never crossed Dubois’ mind.

“That’s what I need,” said Dubois to BoxNation when asked why he picked Parker. “I don’t need no easy tests now. I need the hardest guys around to bring the best out of me.”

After getting stopped by Joe Joyce in 2022, Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) picked up the broken pieces of his career and rebuilt himself, winning five straight. On paper, the one-time champ checks all the boxes. From speed to power to craftiness, Parker seemingly has it all.

Dubois, however, isn’t neurotic or uneasy about their upcoming showdown. In fact, not only is he confident that he’ll keep his streak going but the bullish Brit (22-2, 21 KOs) also went out on a limb with a brazen prediction.

“Whatever Parker brings, I’m gonna be ready for it. I’m gonna be ready to put him to sleep.”
