Eddie Hearn will visit Croke Park for the first time today in a bid to force through a deal for Katie Taylor's farewell fight.
The Ring’s pound-for-pound No.1 has confirmed that her next fight will be her last with a summer outing expected to bring the curtain down on an incredible career.
Both Taylor and her promoter Hearn have called for that fight to take place at the 82,000-capacity home of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Dublin, Ireland.
Now Hearn has confirmed to The Ring that he will make a personal visit to the stadium to discuss a potential fight with Croke Park chiefs.
“I will be going there personally for a meeting on Friday,” he said earlier this week.
“We have spoken about Katie fighting there before but I have never been there to do it in person, this is my first visit.
“This will allow us to have a proper meeting about it to see exactly where we are.”
Croke Park director Peter McKenna courted controversy earlier this month when he suggested Taylor could box at Croke Park but only if two English heavyweights, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, met in the main event.
Taylor’s own father, boxing trainer Peter, was one person who criticized the comments and now Hearn has ruled out the two-weight undisputed champion and arguably the greatest female fighter to ever live boxing on an undercard.
“What I can tell you is that will not be happening,” Hearn said. “Katie Taylor is categorically not getting on no f*****g undercard.
“If Croke Park is to happen it would only be with Katie Taylor.”
Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs), 39, has not boxed since her third victory over Amanda Serrano, which took place at Madison Square Garden in July.
Despite failing to beat Taylor on three attempts, Serrano has been touted as a potential Croke Park opponent, along with Chantelle Cameron and the winner of next month’s clash between Holly Holm and Stephanie Han.
Most Valuable Promotions boss Nakisa Bidarian has also suggested unified lightweight champion Caroline Dubois as a potential opponent but Hearn said she has to beat Matchroom’s IBF champion Elif Nur Turhan first.
Hearn said: “We’ll look at Caroline Dubois but not before she has beaten our champion.
“We would make that fight between Caroline and Elif Nur Turhan today but it’s up to Caroline to take it. Elif will be ready any time.
“If Caroline Dubois continues to win belts and keeps growing her profile then who knows? But it's not really on the radar for Katie at this point.”
