Edgar Berlanga: "I'm On A Different Level Now"

Jonathan Gonzalez had no business being in the ring with Edgar Berlanga. But while he could have opted to play with his food and bank a few rounds, the Puerto Rican native annihilated him quick, fast, and in a hurry.

Last Saturday night, the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida, was essentially turned into a morgue.

In the co-main event slot, Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) proved that Gonzalez was in over his head, dropping him on three occasions before brutally stopping him in the first round. After taking care of business, a sweat-less Berlanga reflected on his recent win. Putting Gonzalez out of his misery in the first round wasn’t surprising to him. In fact, it was what most were expecting.

With that said, it was the first appearance for Berlanga since a lopsided defeat to Canelo Alvarez. Now that he’s gone out and showcased his skills, he went on to say that he isn’t the same fighter who had no answers for the unified super middleweight star.

“I’m on a different level now,” said Berlanga.

Berlanga always has a plan for his future moves. So, it came as no surprise to see his ready-made hit list.

The 27-year-old grabbed the microphone and began calling out the likes of Jermall Charlo, Caleb Plant, and Jaime Munguia. Those names, however, are several levels above Gonzalez. Still, Berlanga is no idiot. He knows that each of those fighters are former world champions and could present him with a much stiffer test. Nevertheless, it doesn’t quite matter who he gets in the ring with. Berlanga is confident that they will all fall victim to the same fate as the majority of his opponents.

“I’m a do the same thing to Plant, I’m a do the same thing to Munguia, I’m a do the same thing to Charlo," continued Berlanga. "I got dynamite in these hands.”
