Edgar Berlanga is gearing up for a return in the first quarter of 2025, and then it should be another significant fight for the super middleweight contender following the first loss of his pro career to Canelo Alvarez in September.

“He'll be back in March,” said Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn. “We'd love to bring him back to Puerto Rico for a big homecoming. It would be special. Next, we'll come back with a good win against a solid, top-15 guy. Then, he's the boss. Jaime Munguia, Caleb Plant, Jermall Charlo – they'll all be the targets for the summer.”

Hearn stated that the dates he's working with for Berlanga are either March 8 or March 15. Hearn added they're in ongoing discussions to potentially feature former IBF junior weltwerwight titleholder Subriel Matias on the Berlanga card.

"I like the Caleb Plant fight," said Berlanga, who has a simmering beef with the former super middlweight titleholder. “He's going to sell the fight. I'm going to smash him. Less than six rounds for a KO.”

If Berlanga is eyeing Plant, perhaps a solid choice in opponent for his upcoming date could be Trevor McCumby, who gave Plant some serious resistance before suffering a ninth-round stoppage loss on the Alvarez-Berlanga undercard. McCumby was recently in deep negotiations with Hearn to face Diego Pacheco on January 25, but Pacheco has since moved on to face Steven Nelson.

Berlanga (22-1, 17 KOs) is currently ranked No. 8 at 168 pounds by The Ring and is a top-five ranked contender by the WBC, WBO, and WBA.
